Come to the Festival
You're Invited
The annual emancipation festival in Trinidad and Tobago, which commemorates
the end of chattel slavery on August 1, 1838, has been described as a monumental
pan-African festival….a true celebration of Africa outside of Africa .
. .
You will find the multidimensional commemoration, an inspirational experience
beyond your imagination. Over the last ten years the number of visitors from
the United States, Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America and other parts of the
diaspora has grown significantly. Those who come include groups and individuals.
For many participants from abroad the commemoration has become an annual pilgrimage.
The spiritual upliftment, the sense of kinship, the communion, the great entertainment,
the varied educational fora, the business-oriented activities all combine to
elicit the often heard description of emancipation as “the experience
of a lifetime”.
The Emancipation Support Committee wishes to invite you to join us for this
historical celebration in 2005, to be part of the experience which so many others
cherish.
Ideally, you can spend the entire period in Trinidad and Tobago, beginning
with the Blessing of the Ground ceremony at the Lidj Yasu Omowale Village on
Sunday July 24 and culminating in the exciting finale of the flambeau parade
on the evening of August 1. This will provide the opportunity to schedule other
activities for July 25 and the day time of July 26, before the forum on Africa
and Its Diaspora that evening, which you would not want to miss. The Emancipation
Village and the Trade Expo formally open on July 27.
Coming to the festival you can also experience other packages such as:
- Historical Tours
- Nature Tours
- Night Sea Cruises
- Visits to traditional African shrines
Groups numbering over 15 attending the festival would benefit from concessionary
prices with respect to airfares and other packages.
Let us know as soon as possible if you plan to participate so that we can assist
you with the necessary arrangements. For more information about the festival,
you can email us at: emancipation@wow.net.
